The organization Le Tournant, a crisis and suicide prevention center located in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. To mark this occasion, it is launching a tour of improvised musical evenings called Jam la vie.
The jam sessions, free for the public and participants, will take place throughout the year and will feature rock musician Matt Rock, a local artist, and his band. The concept is simple: amateur, or even professional musicians present at the evenings who volunteer, will be invited to take turns on stage for an improvised musical session with the band.
Why a jam? The original idea for Jam la vie came from Pierre-Yves L’Heureux, a member of Le Tournant’s Board of Directors: “I thought a jam was a good way to reach a part of the population that Le Tournant may not yet reach. The idea came to me in 2019, but the pandemic obviously put everything on hold, only to resurface at a particularly opportune moment, when a member of Le Tournant, Paul Sincennes, told me it would fit well with Le Tournant’s 40th anniversary.”
All are invited to come celebrate life and have a good time at these inclusive and festive evenings.
“We want to use this concept to develop Le Tournant’s visibility among as many people as possible in the areas we serve. But also, to make the resource even more accessible and to make people understand that there are no taboos in seeking help, that they should call us. The headliner of Jam la vie, Matt Rock, is a perfect example!” explains Lydie Elisha, CEO of Le Tournant.
Here is the list of confirmed establishments:
Other establishments will be added throughout the year and will be announced via Le Tournant’s Facebook page.
Named “Discovery of the Year” at the Montreal International FestiBlues, in addition to winning the Argenteuil en Blues Festival competition, Matt Rock has two tours in Texas under his belt. He was also named the future star of iHeart Radio following the success of his song Tout seul ce soir, which reached the Top 10 in French at Énergie radio and remained number one for three consecutive weeks.
Since 1984, Le Tournant has been helping people with mental health difficulties through its crisis and suicide prevention center, as well as its mental health rehabilitation services.
The crisis and suicide prevention center offers a range of services to anyone experiencing a crisis situation, at risk of suicide or not, as well as their loved ones. These services are aimed at people of all ages, from different economic backgrounds and varied cultures, experiencing significant distress. Rehabilitation and reintegration services aim to improve the well-being and autonomy of people with mental health disorders by temporarily providing them with structured and adapted support.
2024 will mark the 40th anniversary of the organization, and several awareness events will be organized throughout the year.
